In this lecture, I explore the symbolism of the serpent and more specifically, the ways in which this image has been used to discredit and devalue the role of women in countless ways.
I presented my first lecture in the series entitled Why You Need A New Religion in my living room to an audience of three lovely ladies on Friday, August 30th, 2019.
The next one will be on Friday, September 27th.
Starting on the last Friday of August and taking place each month, I will present a twenty-minute or so lecture that discusses the many ways in which women have been oppressed by the masculine-dominated main religions. I will show examples from contemporary events as well as from the history of the religions with a special emphasis on their woman-oppressing narratives and teachings. The goal is to bring important knowledge that typically stays inside the vacuum of academic studies to the broader world which is why these lectures are both free and available on Youtube.
Somehow, despite the fact that much of this is already “known,” nothing substantial is being done about it. Our women leaders continue to accept half-hearted concessions from a masculine dominated world and inherently misogynistic religious practices continue with business as usual, completely unimpeded.
I think if women really knew the extent of the domination tactics, business as usual would be swiftly disrupted. Our goal is to make this information widely known, especially in the churches and synagogues and mosques. The insidiousness of misogynistic religious ideologies currently residing within our own hearts, affecting real-life outcomes, must be exposed, for it is only there that meaningful transformations can take place.
